A Tokyo doctor was arrested under suspicion of administering false COVID-19 vaccines, forging vaccine paperwork, and defrauding the government for vaccine-related commission payments. He was taken into custody by the Second Investigative Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police on September 12. His trial is currently unscheduled.
Funaki Takenori, age 51, served as the director of the Ota Kitaguchi Medical Clinic in Tokyo’s Kita Ward. He administered false COVID-19 vaccines to approximately 230 patients throughout 2021.
The Kita Ward health center alerted the Tokyo Metropolitan Police were alerted to the situation when several patients made inquiries. The patients were concerned because they were not experiencing any of the usual side effects expected from the COVID-19 vaccine.
Tests found that the patients’ antibody levels were far too low, meaning that they had not been properly vaccinated.[1]
Forged Vaccine Documents and Fraudulent Funds
Funaki also reportedly forged vaccine documentation for a female resident of Sapporo, Hokkaido, and her two children. The woman, whose name was not released, was a prior acquaintance of Funaki who was opposed to the COVID-19 vaccine. She wanted to avoid restrictions placed on unvaccinated people in Japan.
The woman then contacted Funaki, who supplied her with forged pre-vaccination questionnaires and vaccine documentation. She registered the bogus documents with City of Sapporo’s Vaccine Record system.[2]
The Tokyo-based doctor received a vaccine commission from the Sapporo government in exchange for supposedly vaccinating the woman and her children. The commission totaled 14,000 yen, or approximately $100 USD according to the current exchange rate. The police charged Funaki with defrauding the government for accepting these funds.
Following his arrest, Funaki admitted that the Sapporo woman was not the only person who, he gave false documentation. The police are continuing to investigate, believing that he may have received similar fraudulent commission funds from the governments of other cities or prefectures.
Funaki reportedly held strong anti-vaccination beliefs. Of the 200+ patients who supposedly received COVID-19 vaccinations at the Ota Kitaguchi Medical Clinic, a large number were not actually from Kita Ward. The police currently believe that Funaki may have assisted fellow anti-vaccination believers throughout Japan with obtaining false documentation.
Administering Saline Solution
When the public health department of Kita Ward first investigated reports of low antibodies in patients, a spokesperson for the Ota Kitaguchi Medical Center insisted that “vaccines had been administered properly.” However, following Funaki’s arrest, he has admitted to administering saline solution to patients in place of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Reportedly, Funaki would first explain the supposed dangers of the vaccine to patients, attempting to convince them not to get it. If they insisted, he would instead inject them with saline solution.
Patients were extremely upset to learn of Funaki’s arrest and false vaccinations. One woman, speaking to the Asahi Shimbun, reported feeling “betrayed” by her doctor and that she had come away feeling fully convinced that she was vaccinated for several weeks until she realized that she was not experiencing any side effects. She feels “unaware” of what the false vaccine is doing to her body. [3]
Medical journalist Mori Madoka described Funaki’s actions as “unethical,” stating that anyone who wishes to receive the COVID-19 vaccine should be able to do so. She thinks that Funaki’s medical license will be suspended. He may no longer be able to practice medicine as a result of his actions [4] It is also possible that the Ota Kitaguchi Medical Center may be shut down or receive some sort of sanction or punishment.
Saline solution will likely not produce any harmful side effects in patients who received it instead of the COVID-19 vaccine. However, injecting a person with something they did not consent to could result in Funaki being prosecuted for assault or intent to cause bodily harm.
Patients who Funaki injected with saline solution will have the opportunity to get proper vaccinations at other locations in Kita Ward.
